Overview
Debate
Camp Canada aims to empower students with the skills of effective communication
and teamwork through the avenue of competative debate and public speaking.
The goal of our program is to inspire young people to become informed
and articulate global citizens with the confidence required to present
mature ideas in a convincing and organized way.
Over the past eight summers, Debate Camp has filled to capacity with a wide
variety of students. Many are new to the activities of public speaking
and debate and receive a welcome introduction to these valued life skills.
Others are experienced debaters and seek competitive training from university-level
camp staff, many of whom have competed internationally. Total enrollment
over a one-week session is limited to 80 campers between grades 7 - 11,
each of whom participate in various ability groupings dependent on their
experience level. The staff to camper ratio is 1:8 and students are housed
in school dormatories, each supervised by their group leader or counsellor
for the week.
In 2010 Debate Camp will again operate on the
beautiful campus of Rosseau Lake College in Muskoka, Ontario. Rosseau Lake is renowned
for their icon Canadian, lake-side setting and provides first-class academic,
boarding and recreational facilities. As a result, camp's program is far
from being exclusively academic. At many points throughout the average
day, creative programs and recreational activities such as swimming are
provided. As returning campers verify each year, the Debate Camp experience
is valued for a combination of the skills taught and the limitless fun
had among students from across North America. Information about the camp
curriculum, staff, and program plans for 2010 are detailed throughout this
website.
